Hernán Chevalié

I was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina in 1977. During my childhood and adolescent years I spent my free time painting and drawing whenever and wherever I could. Sometimes I would be guided and advised by my maternal grandfather, who was my very first mentor and source of artistic inspiration.

When I was 16 I got my first tattoo. The experience pushed me to make a life changing decision. From that point on I would dedicate my life to the art of the tattoo.

After working for two years as a self-taught tattoo artists, I decided to study Fine Arts in Buenos Aires. I had hoped that going to art school I would improve my drawing technique and skills. Subsequently, however, I left the University because I did not find what I was looking for within the confines of the lecture hall.

Ultimately, in the year 2000, the desire to improve my skills took me out of my home country and into Barcelona, Spain. There, I had the opportunity to work in many different studios and meet many different artists from the tattoo community. After some years and lot of effort and hard work I opened my own studio, Calaveras y Diablitos, where I now work with my partner Rebeca López.

Though I’ve dedicated my life to tattooing, I also enjoy painting with pigment and brushes. The process of making a painting takes me to another dimension. Because of that, I always make sure to take time out from the tattoo in order to fulfill my desire to create traditional fine art.
